Quantitative Analysis of Metabolic Fluxes in Plants
Methods of metabolic flux analysis allow theoretical prediction and experimental determination of in vivo metabolic rates in cells, unraveling structure and regulation of metabolic networks. Metabolic flux analysis is therefore recognized as an important tool in metabolic engineering. An overview of the methods is given in particular considering the metabolic network of highly compartmentalized plant cells. Recent work on analysis and modeling of central metabolism in developing seeds of Brassica napus and Arabidopsis thaliana will be presented.
